The Infrastructure Challenge We Address
Water and wastewater infrastructure in North America is aging at a rate that exceeds current rehabilitation investment. The American Society of Civil Engineers has consistently graded U.S. wastewater infrastructure at a D+ in its Infrastructure Report Card assessments, reflecting the scale of deferred maintenance and capital renewal that the sector faces. Billions of gallons of untreated or partially treated wastewater are discharged to receiving waters annually through aging infrastructure failures. The human health, environmental, and economic consequences of inadequate infrastructure maintenance are substantial and well-documented.
Protective coating systems are among the most cost-effective interventions available for extending the service life of concrete and steel infrastructure assets. When correctly specified and applied, a quality coating system can defer structural replacement by decades, eliminating or reducing the frequency of the emergency repairs that consume disproportionate shares of maintenance budgets. The challenge is that coating selection and application require specialized knowledge that is not always available within municipal engineering departments — and that the marketplace for coating products contains both genuinely high-performance options and systems that do not deliver their advertised performance under real operating conditions.
